Kindergarten Teacher (Advisor) • Primary 1-2 Teacher (Advisor) • Intermediate 3-4 Teacher (Advisor)

Part-time positions also available: Special Education, Art, Spanish and Outdoor Education

The purpose of this position is to develop lesson plans and provide materials; conduct instruction; and evaluate and assess both instructional materials and student performance and growth. The teacher (Advisor) meets with parents, interprets student’s progress, and informs parents/guardians about student strengths, weaknesses, and progress.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Meet ESEA requirements for “highly qualified”.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with both children and adults.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong self-starter; able to work with limited direction.
  • Entrepreneurial outlook and charter school commitment.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Strong integrated knowledge of curriculum and instructional methodologies in all subject areas. (Experience in Singapore Math, Lucy Calkins Literacy, and Next Generation Science Standards helpful but not required.)
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively with faculty to modify and develop materials within an articulated integrated project- based curricular framework that is embedded in the school’s mission, vision, and aims.
  • Ability to implement a successful advisory role, facilitating student’s personalized learning experiences through demonstrated understanding of multiple learning profiles and developmental learning theories.
  • The ability to employ a variety of teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Ability to inspire trust and confidence, exercise patience, and motivate students.
  • Proven leadership and class management skills.
  • Expertise with a variety of formative and summative assessment tools and the ability to communicate student progress to students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to use technology as a tool to enhance personalized student learning and assist students with learning differences as well as measure student understanding and progress.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, parents, and other members of Pagosa Peak school community.
  • Demonstrates solid professional and personal ethics: models respect, honesty, dependability, and integrity.

Teaching faculty embrace the role of advisors as they facilitate, instruct, coach, and assess the students. Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) are unique to each student. The Advisor will create opportunities for students to pursue unique student-centered learning goals. The project- based learning will be constructivist in design and both personalized and whole class. A place-based philosophy will utilize the whole community as a classroom. Engaging students through a wide range of learning activities – both projects and place-based field studies will underscores Pagosa Peak’s essential vision that every person has a purpose and a place in society.

Pagosa Peak advisors will be life-long learners — and at the very heart of their own learning, collaborators. The faculty of Pagosa Peak will consider themselves a teacher/learner collaborative.

Advisors will plan activities and lessons based on individual and group levels and interests, asking questions to further each student’s understanding and actively engaging in activities alongside the students.

Advisors will design, build, and sustain a respectful and friendly environment where Advisors and children feel a strong fellowship and are comfortable communicating with each other. Final products and showcase student work will be focused on subject area, craftsmanship, and character learning targets. Student evaluation through verbal discussion, written feedback, and varying degrees of written reports will take the place of letter grades.

Advisors will be committed to a deep understanding and respect of nature and their surroundings. Environmental awareness courses, local area exploration, “green living” education and holistic health will be part of every child’s daily experience.

Advisors will participate in professional development activities that help achieve the vision of Pagosa Peak Open School.

NOW HIRING: Special Education Teacher (“Advisor”)

The purpose of this position is to provide a clear, consistent structure for the classroom that ensures that the academic, social, and emotional needs of each Special Education student are met within the guidelines of the Individual Educational Program (IEP) course work.  The Special Education Advisor at Pagosa Peak Open School reports to the School Director

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current Colorado Education Specialist Credential.
  • Three or more years experience in teaching Special Education.
  • Ability to facilitate the group process, supervise people and work effectively with a team.
  • A positive, adaptable, flexible, and high-energy person that can guide our student’s transition to a least restrictive environment.
  • Ability to physically respond to physically active and aggressive children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Clearance of TB test and any other state or federal requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide an individualized academic program for Special Education students in a classroom setting.
  • Perform all duties related to the development of the IEP, i.e. assessment, goal setting, and implementation.
  • Evaluate student progress as required by program.
  • Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and support staff.

NOW HIRING: Office Manager

Purpose: The purpose of this flexible position is to have a combined function of as lead office/business management personnel to provide clerical and business overview support to the School Director and to support and organize student records, financial and the daily operations of the school. An Office Manager will provide general administrative assistance to the School Director and consult, review and revise business operations as needed for the proper operation of the School in the areas of administrative, financial, enrollment and clerical work. These tasks will be procedural in nature.

This position will require strict confidentiality to ensure the privacy of families is respected. This important role oversees all financial procedures and controls. They provide regular financial reports to the SD and the Board of Directors additional job duties may include overseeing payroll, benefits administration, cash flow projects, annual budgeting, and management of all accounts. As this is combined role, this person must be comfortable with filling in wherever it is needed, and flexible with adjusted responsibilities that might not be listed here, as they come up.

Desired qualifications include a BA/BS in Business management or Finance or equivalent, direct experience in school or other public entity finance and budgeting, understanding of school management and the PPOS Mission and Vision.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clerical and routine secretarial support to the school and School Director. • Compose own correspondence or transcribe correspondence, bulletins, reports,
    memorandums, etc.
  • Maintain records of enrollments, withdrawals, transfers, and daily student attendance.
  • Assist in maintaining student/staff reports to the State.
  • Maintain student cumulative records.
  • Prepare and code supply and equipment requisitions, and maintain inventory of office and school supplies.
  • Maintain the master calendar for the building.
  • Maintain records for access cards and keys to the building.
  • Coordinate student transportation and communicate with parent carpools and County transit system.
  • Assist in making arrangements for school functions.
  • Provide lead work over other administrative support personnel.
  • Supervise and direct the front office secretary by training, coordinating work, and monitoring time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years experience as an office manager within an educational system or similar entity .
    Knowledge of office procedures, practices and policies. Knowledge of accounting procedures.
  • Knowledge of various computer programs computer operation such as Office, data entry, and retrieval
  • Knowledge of financial recordkeeping, projecting and tracking, and Financial
    Transparency Act.
  • Familiarity with preparation and distribution of budgets.
  • Knowledge of the program, functions, and procedures of the school, the School District’s organization, and knowledge of the community served by the school.
  • Working knowledge of first aid.
  • Ability to keyboard with speed and accuracy at a minimum of 50 words per minute.
  • Ability to operate simple office machines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Ability to remain calm and assist in emergency and stressful situations.
