School Director/Principal Position

Pagosa Peak Open School seeks an energetic, visionary leader for our new Project-Based, Place-Based school, to guide our school into its third year of operation, 2019-2020, and beyond. PPOS was authorized by the Archuleta School District in 2017 and is currently in its second year of operation, serving 95 students in grades K-5.

The school is centrally located in semi-rural Pagosa Springs, in a converted office building which we hope to purchase. Our new School Director will inspire the staff, students and parents to bring the school into Performance accreditation while maintaining our philosophical focus on innovative educational methods and healthy lifestyles. At full build-out, we plan to serve about 140 students, K-8.

Our ideal candidate will be:

  • Enthused about the development of a Project-Based Learning, Place-Based Education environment that comprehensively addresses Colorado state standards
  • Able to inspire and lead our team of educators, our students and our parents to reach their full potential, as members of a cooperative learning community
  • Familiar and comfortable with the use of various assessment tools, and able to help staff, students and parents use assessment data effectively to increase academic achievement
  • Experienced in financial planning and oversight, grant writing, and human resource coordination
  • A compelling communicator with our staff, our students, our parents, our authorizing district and our semi-rural community, through both verbal and written means
  • Knowledgeable about special education, ADA and gifted/talented requirements
  • Able to coordinate an effective professional development program that includes PBL and Place-Based Education training
  • Ready to address behavior issues in an effective, compassionate manner
  • Willing to take embrace risk-taking as a valuable learning tool
