A tiny redwood, a group of worms, a guinea pig, a flutter of butterflies, a patch of strawberries. Life springs around PPOS students as rainy days give way to a sunny summer. These interactions, small and large, provide students with opportunities to walk through Life Sciences in meaningful and hands-on ways: Will this seed grow? Will this pet eat carrots? Will this strawberry be sweet? Will these butterflies use their proboscises to drink nectar from this flower? This inquiry – these experiences – allow students to take a close look at the life around them. All the while, the process of using their senses to make observations and characterize living things busily builds capacity for curiosity, exploration and experimentation.
