Physical Education Advisor

Position Description Duties & Responsibilities

The PPOS PE Advisor builds healthy, confident students through fitness programming that focuses on collaboration, skill-building and overall well-being. The PE teacher leads from a strengths-based perspective, encourages students to learn from failure, work on a team, and take risks. This role includes working on character development in addition to physical health.

Core Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide high quality physical education instruction
    • Use materials and curriculum provided by the school to appropriately instruct students at all grade levels K-8 in physical education
    • Plan and prepare lessons to include character building and school value alignment
  • Serving the needs of all students
    • Partner with the Exceptional Student Services Advisor to differentiate and modify curriculum to meet the needs of all students, especially students on learning plans. Ensure that all accommodations are provided to students on plans.
    • Partner with classroom advisors on best practices for managing student behavior
  • Communicate directly and with care to advisors, administrators, students and families
    • Copy classroom advisors and administrators on all email communication with families
    • Be professional in communication: honest, thoughtful and kind
    • Stay curious and open to new ideas
    • Share all pertinent information with classroom advisors, including necessary reflection on the class or individual student participation
    • Record grades for progress reports
    • Use Restorative Practices language with students, staff and families


Qualifications

  • Previous experience in teaching elementary school required
  • Previous experience in teaching PE preferred
  • Strong time management skills required
  • Willingness to learn, listen and reflect is a must
  • Strong support for our school’s mission and vision
