Without the support of grants, donations and sponsorship, PPOS staff would not be able to provide our student body with individualized attention and real-world experiences. Without support, Archuleta County would not have a free school choice option for K-8.

Pagosa Peak Open School (PPOS) is the only tuition-free K-8 school in Archuleta County. Our small, rural school serves 110 students and employs 25 staff members through a project-based learning model and year-round schedule. More than 40% of PPOS students identify in a minority group, nearly 50% qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch, and 14.4% receive Special Education Services. We build our strong and inclusive culture through the implementation of Restorative Practices: where we recognize healthy relationships as foundational to positive outcomes for children. Through project-based learning, where students get to analyze guiding questions to address Colorado State Social Studies and Science Standards, achievement happens through impacts in our community. Whether our students are creating and serving a free community meal, building free libraries for local residents, or addressing our Town Council about their environmental impact studies; the students of PPOS set high bars for civic engagement. PPOS receives less public funding than other public schools and faces higher costs due to things like rent, maintenance, utilities, our food program and our field work transportation. Help out today!
