Students K-2 from PPOS’s Early Elementary DL (Distance Learning) Cohort dove into their first social studies project with the question, “How can we care for our environment and inspire others to do the same?” Throughout this project, students practiced responsible citizenship by identifying problems and creating solutions for these issues.
They collected data, did research, organized and gathered materials, created written plans, and followed through with the mission of bettering their environment.
Through this book entitled “How to be a Problem Solver” , they hope to share their work with others in order to inspire the continued care of the world around us.
The students had a chance to reflect on their book project over Zoom with Ms. Robyn’s in-person 2nd and 3rd grade class before Thanksgiving Break.
Kaylee (second grade) said, “I liked the mouse picture!” which was drawn by Zeke (kindergarten) who responded with, “Thanks because I worked pretty hard on those!”
Jack (third-grade), “I liked all of your work, it was really good!”
River (third-grade), said, “I like all that work that Finlay did on writing to so many different people.” Later Finlay said he plans on sending his writing to the mayor, City Market and the newspaper.
After talking with Ms. Robyn’s class, the Early Elementary DL Cohort commented on their process and and on receiving feedback. Amalie (kindergarten) said, “They thought our work was beautiful, and that makes me feel good.”
