After receiving a nearly $700,000 grant from the Colorado Health Foundation, the Playground for the People is underway.
The playground will double as a park for the community, open to the public when the school is not in session and will be adjacent to the walking path near Walmart. The project is expected to be completed in August of 2025, before school is back in session.
Pagosa Peak Open School students visited the Archuleta County Commissioners in April, requesting additional funding for this community park. The students were excited to hear that the county approved their request, with nearly $70,000 more put toward the project.
The playground will be the only public playground in uptown Pagosa, and the only multi-tiered playground in the county.
The school community is celebrating the start of this project with a groundbreaking ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29.
